iPad Pro 11-inch (M4)

I’ve wanted an iPad Pro ever since the first one came out in 2015. I just always thought it was an interesting device. Every time it was updated, I thought about getting it; but it was always low on the totem pole because of the price. Well, I finally said eff it and got the iPad Pro 11-inch (M4), and I’m absolutely loving it.

I brought it with me on my first official work trip at ATS in July 2024. I did actual work on it waiting at my gate. I used the Freeform app to outline a migration plan I needed to put together. I used it quite a bit during the show. I used the Canvas app to make the actual migration plan document and Word to make a supporting guide for one of the websites I made. I checked my own online ordering website that I made for my company to monitor things.

When I first used the Apple Pencil Pro, I was blown away by how well I wrote. My penmanship is better on here than on regular paper (love and hate that). The Pencil Pro works so well with this screen. There’s 0 latency (technically there is some, but it’s imperceptible). I was writing on glass paper.

The Magic Keyboard is perfect for me. My hands are pretty small, so the typing experience feels great for me. The travel on the keys is fine, and they for the most part feel like the keys of the MacBook Pro I used back at the Museum.

The battery life is so good. I don’t use it heavily everyday, but I do use it everyday. I charge it once every 4 or 5 days, and half the time it’s powering the Magic Keyboard. I’ve used it for work, YouTube, Twitch, writing in Obsidian, taking notes using Noteful. I used it at Starbucks to complete the documents mentioned above while Laila was a friend’s birthday party. It’s the perfect size for that.

I’m using Split Screen to write this post. I’ve read a lot of the same argument where people like the larger iPad because in Split Screen you can get “2 full-size apps.” I don’t need that. They’re side-by-side. I can copy a link from Chrome and paste it right into Obsidian. That’s perfect.

I just love the mobility of this thing alongside its absolute power. I know there a limitations, but there are also huge advantages. So far I’m really enjoying my experience, and I’m glad I finally treated myself to an iPad Pro.
